FAQs
Am I in the right place?
If you’re looking to license a master recording, photograph or album cover for use in a compilation, educational program, musical product (e.g. cards, ornaments, etc.) book, audiobook, set décor, magazine article, or on merchandise, then yes (of course, this list is for illustration purposes only)! If you’re looking to use a master recording or audio visual asset in a television show, film, soundtrack, commercial, video game or any other audiovisual use, then please head over to Sony’s SyncShop Website.
Do I have to fill out the form?
Yes! It’s a great place to start. We’ll reach out to you if we need more information. However, please note that completing and submitting the form is not a license or permission from Sony Music Entertainment; if your request is granted, you will be sent formal approval.
When can I expect to hear from you?
We assure you that we’re working on it. The usual turnaround time is approximately 2-3 weeks. If we need more information from you, or have an answer, we’ll reach out to you.
What will the fee be?
The fee varies. There are a lot of factors to consider.
If I get a license from you, do I have to do anything else?
Sony Music Entertainment can only grant permission for the rights that it holds. Depending on the asset, you may have to get permission from, and pay an additional fee to, other parties that have an interest in the work. For example, you may be responsible for securing music publishing rights or getting third-party consent. Please consult with your advisors about what rights and clearances you need for your project.
